Christmas Home Decor

My First Year Decorating for Christmas - 2020!

If you’re like me, your cringe when it comes to decorating your home for Christmas! For the past 3 years we’ve lived in this house, we have NEVER decorated. We are usually working all week and traveling for Thanksgiving and the two weeks surrounding Christmas so putting all that effort into something we may not enjoy for very long has never made sense to us. Flash forward to 2020, we’ve gone ALL IN on the Christmas decor. Since we’re all working from home in this household and not traveling for Thanksgiving, this seemed like the perfect time to brighten up the house with some Christmas Spirit!  Everything I purchased for this year’s Christmas display is highly affordable and not overly “done” with accessories.

Cozy Christmas Fireplace

A few years ago when we moved in, we updated our fireplace to be exceptionally cozy looking. If you’re interested in that DIY update you can find that blog post here – Cozy Fireplace Makeover. The moroccan tile update and mantel were the first steps to success in creating this Christmas Winter Wonderland.

From there, there were really only 5 key elements to this decor!  For convenience, here are the direct links to these pieces:

1) Flocked Garland

2) Knit Stockings

3) Glass Ornament Garland

4) Reindeer-in-a-scarf Artwork from Etsy

5) Black Candle Sticks and Tapered Candles

If you have some other holiday themed items, they would also look great mixed in with the flocked garland on the mantel! For simplicity and to cut down on the overall cost of my decor, I chose not to put much else on the mantel.  The coziest element yet, is turning on the gas for the fire and cuddling up nearby to have hot chocolate and watch Elf or The Grinch! After 2020 being such an intense year of ups and downs, decorating this part of our home up early was exactly what we needed!

Since this was our first year decorating the house, we had to make the investment in our Christmas Tree! We went with the Fraser Hill 7.5′ Pre-Lit Mountain Pine Flocked Clear LED christmas tree. Living in Houston, we rarely see snow and ice, so ordering a flocked option seemed like the best way to bring the chilly holiday cheer inside!

The tree, which I was able to find for under $250, came pre-lit which just adds a lot of ease and simplicity to this home decor adventure. Once unboxed, the tree is has 3 separate pieces and a base. The lighting sections easily connect to one another. This was the first time we were using this tree, so I anticipated that some of the white flocking would shake off during assembly. This did happen, however, it was easily picked up by a quick sweep. The extra fine bits of snow flocking were easily picked up by our APOSEN cordless vacuum (a great dupe to the Dyson handheld). You can see more about my review on this handy vacuum cleaner in my blog post here.

We are still in the process of figuring out which color and type of ornaments we want to use for our tree. However, we did settle on what I think is the most important part of any tree display – the Christmas Tree topper

This is by far my favorite purchase for my 2020 Christmas Home Decor! The sparkly star topper fit nicely at the top of our tree and lights up a snowy projection onto the ceiling. The swirling snowflakes above the tree really bring the whole vibe together. If you want to have this level of Christmas joy every year you need to invest in one of these
